Also Known As: The Reason My “Following List” Looks Like A CVS Receipt.
For The Content
I’ve always loved when Google can recommend stories I might like to read but overtime its seems their algorithm gets sort of stuck when I might enjoy something outside my normal routine they stick with the known winners and it just slowly loses it’s helpfulness. I treat the Medium algorithm the same way and by “following” as many people that interact with articles I enjoy I grow the size of the writers I may genuinely enjoy. Now not everyone I follow will be followed forever as my tastes narrow but I want to give a majority of content a try before writing it off as not for me. I would hope others share that thought with my writing and if it’s not for them I do hope they keep looking and find those voices that resonate with them.
For The Followers
Any interaction on this platform seems to help gain followers. Whether it is clapping for stories you enjoy or leaving your personal note in a comment it all seems to help the Medium algorithm confirm you are a real reader that just loves some great content. An added benefit of interacting with our lovely community is people realize you exist and though they may have not found you under normal browsing habits by leaving say a comment, they see you in this vast digital landscape and just might want to hear more by following.
