Understanding What’s Important In Life

work should be finite, just like your life

So there I was. A normal Thursday night surfing YouTube for that one last video I would treat myself to before I get to the work I was trying to accomplish. For some reason the YouTube algorithm decided that I should be recommended a clip from a recent interview by BT sport with WWE wrestler Triple H. Now I'm not what you would call a fan of wrestling in general (though I have watched a match or two with friends in years long since gone by). Maybe YouTube noticed I like news and interviews and thought that was in the same vein? Maybe it’s blowing up on internal metrics and YouTube is throwing it in front of everybody. Who will really ever know? But I digress.

Regardless I popped on the fifteen minute or so clip for curiosities sake if for nothing else. The title of the video “”I Was Afraid Of Dying” Visibly Emotional Triple H Reflects On Health Scare & In-Ring Retirement” probably gave me the push to view as it’s always a weird experience to see someone as visibly powerful (strength wise) as Triple H show any sort of weakness. But there was Triple H in a well dressed suit looking more like a bond villian then a spandex hero/antihero of the ring.

The interview was very well done (in the clip above) so I do plan to catch the entire replay when I get a free hour or so. The content was just what I needed to hear. Triple H (real name Paul but that’s not nearly as fun to type) talked of his heart health history in a way that reminded me of the simple truth nobody really knows how long we have in this world and every moment is a gift. This man spent his whole life building up this amazing career where he got to do what he loved with thousands of fans sharing that joy with him every night he was in the ring. Then in an instant a life of dedication to his craft, eating right, exercising, and overall taking care of himself all was disregarded due to a genetic anomaly that threatened the reliability of his heart. Hearing Triple H casually talk about if the doctors had not caught his heart irregularities he might have just dropped dead at some point in the future was truly a dramatic moment. Just to relay any worries he does speak of the operation that should take care of this genetic issue for him but still wow, what a story.

Now Triple H is still involved with WWE and wrestling as a content officer but to hear him talking about how easy it was for him to just hang up his belt from WWE and let others take the spotlight while he naturally transitioned to his new responsibilities and throughout his recovery that he was able to re-focus on what was really most important to him, his family.
