So far commenting/clapping and just interacting with other writers seems to the most productive method I've seen of getting followers.

I wonder if there is a cap to the amount of people you can follow? I don't treat medium like reddit and only subscribe to what I like. I prefer to follow all and see what the algorithm bubbles up to the top of the stack.
